Different political picture in Worthing schools elections
YOUNG voters gave a glimpse into what the political system may look like in the future when taking part in mock elections.
Broadwater Manor School pupils, aged eight to 13, backed the Tories to lead Britain out of the recession.
The school, in Broadwater Road, saw its voters relegate the Labour Party to third while the Liberal Democrats stole second.
A surprise at the polls was the lack of support for the Green Party who only mustered around five per of the overall votes.
However, at Worthing High School, in South Farm Road, it was the Liberal Democrats who were victorious, winning the election with 149 votes compared to 91 for second place Green Party.
The Conservatives came third, with Labour and UKIP trailing behind.
Assistant head teacher, Darren Jones, said: "I've spoken to lots of our students over the last couple of weeks about politics and they have really made an effort to become more informed.
"There was a real buzz on election day with students keen to cast their votes."
