Film star in the terminal?

HOLLYWOOD superstar Tom Hanks was in town on Monday as scenes for the Da Vinci Code movie were shot at Shoreham Airport.

Airport manager John Haffenden said a crew were there all day and filming took place in the evening, from 8pm onwards.

The blockbuster film is being directed by Oscar winner Ron Howard and is based on the best selling book by Dan Brown.

Film spokesman Claudia Kalindjian said it was a closed set and could not comment.

But it is thought that leading man Tom Hanks took part in the filming. The book includes a scene where the heroes fly from France and into Biggin Hill Airport. Shoreham could have been standing in for the Kent airfield.

Shoreham Airport has been used as a filming location before. Parts of the ITV series Poirot, starring David Suchet as Agatha Christie's ace Belgian sleuth, was filmed there, as was the BBC programme Tenko.

The Da Vinci Code is currently being filmed all over Britain and is expected to be released in May, 2006.

Dan Brown's book tells the story of Harvard academis Robert Langdon, who is drawn into an international mystery after hearing an elderly curator of the Lourve museum in Paris has been murdered.

The film also stars Ian McKellen, Alfred Molina and Jean Reno.
