Final farewell to John Hobbs

CROWDS gathered to say their final goodbyes to John Hobbs, the well-known East Worthing man who dedicated more than 30 years to the town.

The funeral for Mr Hobbs, 84, of Ophir Road, was held at Worthing Crematorium on Wednesday, January 14.

His son, Steve Hobbs, said: "We were overwhelmed by the amazing number of people who turned out on a January afternoon to see my father off in style."

Mr Hobbs spent many years as the Herald parish pump correspondent for East Worthing and was also heavily involved in the East Worthing Community Association, The Royal British Legion, Worthing Philatelic Society, East Worthing Stamp Club, the Burma Star Association and The Royal Air Force Association.

He died at Worthing Hospital on January 4.
