Findon Fire Station to close and Lancing loses second engine
Protests outside Findon Fire Station
PROTESTS fell on deaf ears as West Sussex County Council confirmed it will close Findon retained fire station and remove Lancing’s second engine.
Findon, along with Bosham and Keymer have been described as a “low risk” area with crews attending few emergency calls.
The changes form part of wide-ranging adjustments to the way West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service works across the county.
County council cabinet member for public protection Peter Evans, approved the plan yesterday (Monday, November 15).
He said: “Our Fire and Rescue Service has put together a package of proposals that will improve public safety and make it more effective in the long term. It will make resources more effective by reflecting the changing risks in West Sussex.
“Higher risk areas will be targeted, so improving safety for vulnerable people, and there will be overall improvements to response times across the county.
“It will improve the safety of our firefighters who will be better trained and more effective at operational incidents.”
For reaction from Findon and Lancing residents see the Herald’s full story on Thursday, November 18.
