George Mall is set to appear before the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) on February 15, facing a string of seven misconduct charges.

Mr Mall, a former employee of Irene House Care Home in Parkfield Road, Worthing, worked at the home between September 2012 and July 2013.

He is accused of showing a colleague a video of a lewd act, using foul and abusive language about or to other members of staff and on various occasions exposing a member of staff’s stomach by lifting up his clothing.

On May 29, Mr Mall allegedly told another staff member to ‘shut her mouth’ after she questioned which fruit juice residents drank, and, after being challenged, shouting words to the effect of ‘report me, I don’t care’.

On June 11, 2013, Mr Mall is accused of positioning his car in the home’s car park so a staff member was trapped between Mr Mall’s car and the wall of the home.

Guild Care said no residents were affected or involved, adding it takes the safety and care of all of customers and staff ‘extremely seriously’. The home has worked with investigating police officers to bring this investigation to a conclusion where a criminal allegation was made and Mr Mall arrested.

The NMC hearing will follow the criminal court case that was concluded in the last week of January 2016, where Mr Mall was found not guilty.

A spokeswoman for Guild Care said: “The list of charges against Mr Mall are extensive and Guild Care want to assure all of their existing residents, families, staff and volunteers that the proper investigations were undertaken at the time of the incidents.”

Guild Care Chief Executive, Suzanne Millard said: “This has been an incredibly stressful and drawn-out process to bring both the criminal case and the NMC investigation.

“I can confirm that George Mall was an employee of Guild Care but once the allegations were brought to our attention, the proper disciplinary procedures were followed.

“Once investigated, George Mall was immediately referred to the police and the NMC.

“Safety at Guild Care is paramount to all who enter our buildings and will remain our utmost priority. Following the investigation we are pleased to confirm that our whistleblowing and reporting processes for staff remain as robust as ever.”

George Mall has not been employed by Guild Care since the time of the allegations and investigation in 2013.

Staff affected have been offered counselling.
