A children’s club which was left with a huge repair bill after lead was stolen from its roof has raised enough to replace it, thanks to generous fund-raising and a good Samaritan roofer.

orthing Boys’ Club, in Ivy Arch Road, had 40 metres of lead flashing – worth thousands of pounds – stolen from its roof in September, 2011.

Unable to claim on insurance, and left with a huge bill and an increasingly leaky roof, the club’s owner, Nikki Holdaway, feared that it would have to close.

Fortunately, the club was nominated as the Worthing Beer Festival’s charity of the year and, along with a number of other fund-raising efforts, managed to raise £5,000.

Local roofer Shawn Taylor, of Rolls Roofing, who used to attend the club, then stepped in to do the repairs at cost price.
