Goring sisters prepare for Thai jungle challenge
NOT many people can say they owe their life to their sister – but Gemma Streeter from Goring is one of them.
When she was just 10, she was diagnosed with leukaemia and received life-saving bone marrow from her younger sister, Becca.
Now the pair, who share a close bond, are planning to give something back to other sufferers by doing a charity trek through the Thai jungle.
Gemma, 26, of Goring Road, had aplastic anemia – a blood cancer and form of leukaemia that meant she needed a bone marrow transplant.
The bone marrow of Becca, aged four, matched Gemma's, so doctors extracted two lots of bone marrow from her lower spine to be given to her sister.
Read Gemma's amazing story and find out how she and her sister Becca are preparing for their seven-day trek in this week's Worthing Herald (Thursday, January 15 edition).
