Hot weather should draw tourists to Worthing
WORTHING is braced for a "bumper weekend" as the heatwave is expected to attract thousands of more day-trippers to the town.
Tourism officer for Worthing, Janice Fraser, said hits on the Worthing tourism website were up 19 per cent on this time last year.
She also said requests for tourism guides were up, so she was expecting a "bumper" two days.
Lorraine Hawkes, assistant town centre manager, said: "Historically, Worthing has fared well in warmer weather, so it may be the case that we see more people in the town in the next few days.
"Because we are an open-air shopping centre and we are by the sea, there is an attraction for people to come down."
Take care in hot weather
South East Coast Ambulance Service is urging people to take precautions for the hot weather.
It took an additional 400 calls last weekend, frequently relating to sunburn, dehydration and heat stroke.
West Sussex Primary Care Trust has issued advice on how to remain safe in the heat.
Tips include staying inside in the coolest room in the house as much as possible, eating cold foods such as salads and fruits and taking cool showers or baths.
