Lancing man in zip wire challenge for Activenture
A WHEELCHAIR user from Lancing has spent the day on a zip wire to help raise money for a cause close to his heart.
Jeffery Garrard, who has cerebral palsy, took part in a sponsored challenge to climb the equivalent height of Everest and zip down the height of Mount Blanc for Activenture – a charity providing adventure holidays for people with disabilities or special needs.
"I have been raising money for Activenture for a long time and I enjoy doing it and taking part," said Mr Garrard of Fereday Close, Lancing.
"The instructors and the helpers are really fantastic.
"They make sure you're safe and look after you – without them we wouldn't be able to go on holiday."
Challenge
Mr Gerrard has been on Activenture holidays since he was a child.
Over the years he has raised thousands of pounds for the charity through various challenges, including a sponsored push around Goodwood race track, completing an obstacle course on his hands and knees, and a sponsored swim.
"All the fund-raising I have been doing over the years has really been quite a challenge for me," said the 52-year-old.
"But I like raising money to provide the equipment they need."
The zip wire and climb challenge at Hindleap Warren in Forest Row, East Sussex, raised more than 1,000 for Activenture.
Mr Garrard's sponsorship money alone raised 160.
