ECO-FRIENDLY volunteers flocked to the beach at Lancing on Sunday to do their bit for the environment.
The group of volunteer litter pickers scoured the beach for rubbish, filling nine sacks in an effort to ‘Keep Lancing Lovely’, their adopted motto.
“There is more to the seaside than water quality - important as that is,” said spokesman for the group Andy Brook.
“It is also about the look of the place plus the comfort and safety of the beach, all of which are compromised by littering.”
Sunday’s litter pick was the group’s first, and covered an area of the beach between Lancing Sailing Club and Beach Green.
Among the items collected by the volunteers were fishing lines and nets, plastic bottles, cans, carrier bags, sweet and food wrappings and plastic lids.
Andy Brook said: “We are keen to do our bit to support those with responsibility for the area by taking a little time to collect and remove what others have left behind.”
Mr Brook invited residents to join the action at the next pick which starts at 2pm on Sunday, July 6.
The group meets near the café on Beach Green in Lancing, and next time it will be covering the area down towards Brooklands
Volunteers are advised to bring along gloves, but bags will be provided.
“Following the pick, we will be enjoying our lovely seaside with a bring-your-own picnic,” said Mr Brook.
