Lots of money raised for Children In Need in Worthing
PUDSEY’S little helpers were out in force on Friday to raise money for Children in Need.
People across Worthing took part in fund-raising events, from wearing fancy dress to organising a croquet marathon, to collect money in aid of the annual appeal.
At Goring Methodist Church Pre-school, in Bury Drive, Goring, children dressed in their pyjamas, made Pudsey biscuits and played games, helping them to make £54.23 for the charity.
Over at Worthing Leisure Centre, in Shaftesbury Avenue, Worthing, children attending the crèche over the weekend put a total of £270 in the bucket for Children in Need.
Holding a cake sale and dressing in pyjamas saw children and staff at Davison Day Nursery, in Selborne Road, Worthing, collect £270 so far.
Nursery manager Louise Payne said: “It was a really enjoyable day and everybody, including the parents, participated.”
Generous customers at Boots Lyons Farm and Montague Street, Worthing, donated a combined total of £1,700. Gill Hunt, who works in customer service for the store, said: “Last year we raised £600, so this is a big improvement on that. Times are tough at the moment, so we want to say a big thank you to the generous customers.”
A croquet marathon was held at West Worthing Tennis Club in Titnore Way, Durrington, which saw players raise £55. It was part of the club’s overall fund-raising for the charity, for which a final figure has yet to be counted.
Goring First School children were generous with their donations for being allowed to wear fancy dress. They came into the school in Palmerstone Avenue, Goring, wearing spotty clothing, and in total pupils donated £212.91.
After not having had a hair cut for eight years, chef Ben Hollatz took Children in Need as an opportunity to have a little more than a trim.
Ben, who works at the Salvation Army Welcome In, in Crescent Road, Worthing, had his long locks cut off by Chris Boxter of the West End salon, to raise £244 for the charity thanks to donations from staff and people who use the centre.
Children and parents from Ladybird Pre-school, in Field Place, Worthing, raised £86.40 for the children’s charity.
They came in dressed in spots and the children had their face painted and decorated cakes and biscuits to sell to their parents at a coffee morning.
Staff also raffled a Pudsey Bear cake and helped children cover a giant Pudsey with loose change.
The Warwick pub, in Warwick Street, Worthing, paid homage to television programme The Only Way is Essex with it’s The Only Way is Pudsey night, in aid of Children in Need and the Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice, raising £500.
