A MAN who ran amok in a Lancing newsagents was tasered by police officers last night during a violent struggle.

The 34-year-old stormed into Garretts Newsagents in North Rd, Lancing, at around 7pm and started hurling bottles and cans around.

Police were called at 7.10pm after a report of a disturbance.

Staff and customers had left the shop unhurt.

A police spokesman said: “Local officers entered and restrained the man after a violent struggle in which a Taser device was discharged into him to help his safe arrest.”

The man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

After receiving treatment at Worthing Hospital for a cut hand, he was taken into custody for interview and further enquiries.

A police officer received minor injuries in the struggle.

Police believe the man was on drugs.
