Meet the man who is the inspiration behind internationally-acclaimed true crime novelist Peter James

For those who have ever wondered where Sussex-based crime novelist Peter James gets his inspiration, and for those who are interested in true crime books, Worthing Library will be holding a special talk on Tuesday, July 19 at 7pm.

Former police chief Graham Bartlett will talk about his new book Death Comes Knocking: Policing Roy Grace’s Brighton, and the true crime stories that inspired and informed Peter James’ internationally bestselling Roy Grace crime series in this collaborative work.

Whether it’s the murder of a nightclub owner and his family or nailing an audacious ring of forgers, co-authors Graham Bartlett and Peter James skilfully evoke the dangerous inside story of policing, the personal toll it takes and the dedication of those who risk their lives to keep the public safe.

Graham Bartlett was a Sussex Police officer for 30 years and one of the youngest to head up the Brighton Force. He served the city through every rank, and achieved his life’s ambition, as Chief Superintendent, to become the city’s Police Commander - or, as Peter James jokingly called him - the ‘Sheriff of Brighton’, a job he held and loved for four years.

This is a ‘must attend’ event for fans of Peter James and his Roy Grace novels and for those interested in true crime: discover the real stories that inspired a fictional hero!

Steyning Bookshop will be selling copies of Graham’s new book at this event – and he will be signing copies.

Tickets cost £4 each and are available from Worthing Library, Richmond Rd, BN11 1HD. [email protected] or call 01903 704809.
