Parking changes to hit St Leonards drivers

Office workers in the heart of St Leonards may face a £36 monthly charge if proposed changes for on-street parking are approved.

Roads above Warrior Square Station, including Southwater Road and Alexandra Road, both of which are heavily used by office workers of nearby government buildings Heron House and Ocean House, are set to be restricted to permit-holders only between 11am and 1pm, from Monday to Friday.

The move effectively forces drivers using hundreds of metres of unrestricted parking into Station Approach, which will become a pay-and-display site charging 1.80 a day.

Residents of the affected roads will have to pay for an annual permit if the changes, due to come into affect around October, are given the go-ahead.

One angry officer worker, who did not want to be named, said: "There must be hundreds of us working around here needing spaces. A lot of the people who work in Ocean House are occupational therapists – they all need their cars to go out and visit patients. I don't see the logic at all."

Today (Friday) is the last day to register objections to the scheme. Visit the parking section of www.hastings.gov.uk for more information.
