A FORMER Wimbledon tennis champion celebrated her 100th birthday on Sunday, December 22.

Phyllis Jordan had a small party with her two daughters and seven grandchildren at the Greystoke Manor residential care home, in Church Lane, Ferring.

Phyllis’ youngest daughter Carol Osborne-Shaw, 66, of Rectory Lane, Angmering, said: “It was very nice, she was very pleased to see all these faces.

“We all opened the cards and had cake and tea.”

Phyllis won the Wimbledon girls title in 1930 under her maiden name of Phyllis Brazier.

In 1969, when her husband Geoffrey Farncombe-Jordan died, Phyllis took over his business Jordan and Cook.
