PICTURES: ‘Most successful’ Worthing fire station open day ever
MORE than 10,000 people packed Broadwater for the most successful Worthing fire station open day yet.
Held at the station, in Ardsheal Road, on Saturday (July 30), as part of the Worthing Lions Festival, the event featured fire engine rides, traffic accident displays, and a Zumbathon flash mob, where huge crowds joined an impromptu dance led by Worthing Zumba Group.
Over the day, thousands were given the chance to see behind the scenes at Worthing’s station and learn more about the role of firefighters.
Darren Wickings, organiser of the open day and watch manager at Worthing station, said the event was the most successful yet.
Darren said: “We had a brilliant day and we think we broke our attendance record – we’ve never seen it so busy.
“The focus of the day for us is, of course, to raise awareness of both fire and road safety. Our aim is to make Worthing a safer place to live, work and visit.”
More than £5,000 was raised from the open day, which will go to the Firefighters Charity and Help Iona May, and firefighters were joined by 999 colleagues from the South East Coast Ambulance Service, Red Cross and Sussex Police.
