STUDENTS showcased their artistic flair at an annual school exhibition.

Work created for this year's A-level exams were displayed alongside art created by GCSE pupils during the exhibition at Steyning Grammar School.

Amanda Duke, the school's area team leader for creative and performing arts, said: "As usual, students have worked very hard to produce exemplary sketchbook work and final outcomes.

"Chris Hajdukiewitz has been the student who has shown extraordinary levels of dedication.

"His coursework outcome took approximately 110 hours to complete.

"His 10-metre papercut piece has been the most difficult to display and it took five adults to help him arrange and hang it on the stage."

Exciting

The themes for this year's exams were Me, Myself, Mine for GCSE pupils, Sanctuary for AS-level students and Discord for A-level students.

The exhibition also featured work from the school's new BTEC First Certificate course in visual arts, with pupils' animation shorts shown in the drama hall.

Mrs Duke said it was an exciting time for the art department as the number of students increased and they prepared to launch two new courses – AS-level photography and the international baccalaureate in the visual arts – in September.

"We are very excited about diversifying our visual arts curriculum and have appointed a new art teacher to lead on photography and animation," she said.
