BRINGING the colourful characters of the Victorian era in Worthing to life is the aim of an ambitious new community project.
With the help of a £50,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), the Worthing Churches Community Heritage Project aims to produce a community play, based around Christ Church in Grafton Road, Worthing.
It will be produced and directed by Ann Feloy, who will launch the two-year project on Tuesday, September 25, with the first group meeting at the church at 7.30pm.
Another meeting will be held on Sunday, September 30, at 3pm. At both, would-be actors and singers and those who want to help backstage can hear more about the project from Ann and her husband, historian Chris Hare.
Ann said: “We have the funding to make this as big and great as possible. It’s a real community project.
“We will get people to research all the characters that lived in Worthing in the Victorian era, and then we’ll get to writing a script.”
Ann hopes the play will be ready to debut by June, 2014.
