Protest to save Findon Fire Station
PROTESTORS turned out in force for a march to demonstrate against plans to close the retained fire station in Findon.
The closure has been proposed by West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service which says the station is too quiet and only received 45 calls for incidents in the area last year.
But residents from the Findon area, and retained fire-fighters themselves, refute the figure, believing the station actually deals with closer to 200 call-outs each year.
About 200 people attended the protest on Saturday, August 21, which started in Nepcote Lane and moved through the village to the fire station.
Findon is one of three retained fire stations earmarked for closure as part of the re-organisation of West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.
The fire redesign consultation aims to balance emergency cover across the county, increase investment in training, increase preventative and educative work to reduce fire risk and identifying necessary efficiency savings.
There is a consultation period until October 8 for people to have their say on the proposed closure, with a decision being made in November,
