READER'S PHOTOGRAPHS: Worthing's wood – it's back

THESE fantastic pictures, taken by reader David Brogan, shows that new wood washed-up on Worthing's "cleared" beaches by yesterday's storm.

And it prompts the question: how much more of the stuff is still out there?

The picture was taken at 3pm on Monday, March 10, after the worst of the storm had passed - you can even see a rainbow on the top right-hand side.

Mr Brogan sent in a second photographs taken at 7am today (Tuesday, March 11), showing the extent of the new wave of timber washed up on Worthing beach.

Tons of wood was washed-up by the storm, much of it shattered and splintered by the gale-force waves.

It gives Worthing Council a new headache - because the wood covers large areas of the beach which have been declared safe and clear after the massive clean-up operation.

One bystander at the scene said this morning: "I feel sorry for the people who were on their hands and knees clearing splinters from the beaches.

"The wood is back and worse than ever.

"It's a huge set-back for them."
