SAVE OUR POST OFFICES: Lancing's public meetings
MORE than 600 signatures were collected in one day for petitions against the proposed post office closures in Lancing and Sompting.
Adur councillors Tony Nicklen, Angie Mills, Wendy Gray, and other Tory supporters manned two stalls in South Street and North Road collecting signatures to protest about the planned closures of three post offices in south Lancing, north Lancing and Sompting.
Two public meetings will be held on Saturday with representatives of the Post Office.
The first, to save Bowness Avenue post office in Sompting, will be held 10am-11.45am at Sompting Community Centre, Loose Lane, followed by one to save Mill Road post office in North Lancing from noon to 2pm at North Lancing First and Middle School, Mill Road.
MP Tim Loughton said: "I would urge all local people who care about saving our post offices to attend these meetings and voice their concerns about the alarming proposal to close seven of the post offices in East Worthing and Shoreham.
"These cuts simply cannot be allowed to go ahead – but unless local people stand up and protest against them, I am afraid they will.
"Tell all your neighbours and friends to turn up on Saturday and to sign the petition I have launched to save these post offices on my website – www.timloughton.com – the consultation period is only six weeks long so people need to speak out on this right now before it is too late."
