SAVE OUR HOSPITALS: The Worthing Herald will get you there

ALL aboard the Herald battle bus.

Following the announcement of a "totally inconvenient" location for a vital meeting about Worthing Hospital, the Worthing Herald has organised a double-decker bus to make sure people can attend.

Last week, the Herald revealed how West Sussex Primary Care Trust had chosen Copthorne, near Gatwick, as the location where it will decide whether Worthing Hospital will become the county's major hospital, or if it will be downgraded and lose vital services.

To get to the meeting, at the Copthorne Hotel on Wednesday, June 4, would involve a 70-mile round trip for Worthing residents.

This would cost a couple 25 on the train, or 100 in a taxi.

So, in a bid to get people to the meeting, the Herald and the Keep Worthing and Southlands Hospitals (KWASH) team have joined forces to provide a free double-decker bus service.

The old Southdown bus will leave the south end of Grand Avenue at noon on Wednesday, June 4, and Tom Wye, who has been heading the KWASH campaign, is hoping it will be full.

He said: "We can only take a limited number of people and so people need to book their seats."

Worthing taxi driver John Sharp has also offered to take four people to the meeting for free.

John, 59, said the location was "ridiculous".

For a place on the bus, ring reporter Katherine McGlinchey on 01903 282358.
