Steyning pub supports Canine Partners

A PUB and its customers helped raise pounds for hounds at the recent Steyning Country Fair.

Frank Barwick, landlord at The Star Inn, in Steyning High Street, teamed up with members of the town's Bald-headed Club to raise funds for charity Canine Partners.

Frank told the Herald: "We had a barbecue at the country fair, in order to raise money for Canine Partners, in conjunction with the Bald-Headed Club.

"They kindly offered to match whatever we made.

"We managed to be able to present Canine Partners with a cheque for 500."

Demonstrations

While customers were snapping up the barbecued food at The Star during the country fair, representatives from Canine Partners were on hand to offer information and show what assistance dogs can do.

"On the day, they were doing the demonstrations with the dogs while we were selling the hot dogs," said Frank.

Members of the Bald-headed Club visited The Star when Frank handed over the cheque to Ray Towning and Gordon Tickler, from the Canine Partners' Shoreham support group.

Gordon said the money would go towards buying a puppy, which would then be trained by Canine Partners to become an assistance dog.

He added: "We certainly thank the Bald-headed Club and Frank for facilitating and organising the event."
