A TANKER believed to be carrying wastewater from a landfill site caused a stink when it toppled and shed its load at the top of Titnore Lane near Patching.

The articulated lorry overturned at around 2.30pm on Tuesday afternoon, on the roundabout at the junction with the A280.

The driver of the lorry escaped unhurt and there were no the vehicles involved.

The lorry belongs to Hazrem, a hazardous waste disposal company based in Newport.

Speaking on Tuesday, a spokesman for the company denied that the lorry was carrying hazardous waste at the time of the accident, but declined to give any further comment.

An eyewitness said: “It stank. It was really humming.

“Traffic was absolute chaos, and drivers were acting quite dangerously until the police got there.”

Police closed the slip road off the westbound carriageway while the lorry was removed.
