A varirty of foods were also on offer as well as clothes and jewellery stalls.

Cleo Matthews, from Sussex International Women’s Day, said: “This is the 19th year we have celebrated this day in Sussex and is an opportunity for women to come together and also to appreciate how fortunate we are in this country.

“We are also trying to raise awareness so that other women can come forward and take part in the events that both organisations hold.

“International Women’s Day was born out of a political movement for votes for women.

“We have waited a long time for the vote but in some countries this still has not been achieved.”

Liz Rahman, of the Women’s Hub, said: “We have got to know a lot of different people, cultures and communities since we started the hub almost three years ago and we think it is empowering for those ladies to get together socially and spend time as a group.

“The aim is to form a group that meets regularly and to include as many people as possible.”
