Three friends will embark on a pier-to-pier walk this weekend in memory of a man who fell from a crane in Worthing.

Dave King, Rob Finney and Ant Duffield will be raising money for Guild Care and Link Romania by walking from Worthing Pier to Brighton Pier and back again – 23 miles – on Saturday (October 13).

The walk is in memory of their friend Lee Rainford who fell from a crane in Marine Parade. His inquest was held last week and the report can be found on page 6. The trio will be leaving Worthing Pier at 10am and hope to be back between 2-3pm. Dave said: “My wife and I met Lee in 2010 on an alpha course. He was then part of each thing that’s been big in our lives; our baptisms, family parties, our engagement, church run events and our home group.

“He always had a massive hug and a smile and although sometimes he was troubled he was always genuine and deeply searching for God.” Ant is part of the leadership team at Worthing Baptist Church and was a good friend of Lee. The pair used to go running together and often met up on Sunday evenings. Rob, the third member of the team, used to join up with Lee for football training when he played for the Ferring Sabbath FC. Lee was all about helping others and using his spare time to volunteer for local charities Link Romania and Guild Care and spoke about his love for the services.
