TV crews descended on Worthing Pier this week because it was the “best pier along the coast”.

The filming was for a new Channel 4 drama series. The four-part drama, entitled The Fear, is set in Brighton but the show’s producers picked Worthing Pier because they thought it looked better than Brighton Pier.

Guy Weller-Poley, locations manager for Channel 4, said: “We chose Worthing because it is a more aesthetically pleasing pier than Brighton Pier.

“I looked at a number of piers along the coast and thought this was best.”

Computer generated effects will be used to help disguise the scenery to make it look more like Brighton.

Guy said another factor in coming to Worthing was the council’s helpfulness.

The series will star Richard E. Grant and Peter Mullan.

Mullan will play central character Richie Beckett, a Brighton crime boss turned entrepreneur who dreams of rebuilding Brighton Pier.

It will air in December.
