Two arrested at Durrington Tesco opening

TWO men are in police custody today (Thursday, February 25) after they were arrested at the opening of the new Tesco Extra store in Durrington.

A 32-year-old man from Patching was arrested on suspicion of affray and a 28-year-old man from London was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence outside the store in New Road.

They remain in police custody at Worthing this afternoon awaiting questioning.

Protestors arrived for the official opening of the store at 10am and were removed by Tesco security staff by 10.45am.

They continued their protest on the road outside and dispersed shortly before noon.

One man used a D-lock to attach himself to a row of trolleys.
