UPDATE: ‘Car surfing’ incident driver bailed

A 27-YEAR-old man involved in a potential ‘car surfing’ incident in Broadwater yesterday has been released on bail (Sunday, May 11).

The man was arrested on suspicion of driving with alcohol above the prescribed limit, driving without due care and causing serious injury by dangerous driving following the incident in Charmandean Road, Worthing, shortly after 11pm.

After being interviewed the man, from Goring-by-Sea, was released on bail until June 24 while enquiries continue.

The casualty, a 26-year-old Lancing man, remains in a critical but stable condition at Southampton General hospital.

Police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to come forward.
