FOLLOWING a sewage spill in East Worthing on Sunday (September 2), people are being warned not to enter the sea between Southwick and Ferring.

Red warning flags are now flying along the whole stretch of Worthing coastline, after a “technical issue” caused Southern Water to pump raw sewage into the sea at East Worthing.

A message from Worthing Council, posted on its Facebook page, said: “Some sewage matter is now visible in the sea so we are urging people not to swim between Southwick and Ferring for the duration of the sewage leak.

“Our beach team has put public notices along this stretch of beach and are out during the day advising people not to swim.

“Southern Water – overseen by the Environment Agency – is working hard to resolve the leak.

“Adur and Worthing councils are advising their residents and visitors how to keep safe during this incident.”
