Police are appealing for witnesses after a man tried to rob McColl’s in Worthing with a handgun.

The would-be robber went into the Heene Road store on Saturday (1 February) at 3.40pm and threatened staff before demanding cash from the till.

When he was thwarted by staff he ran off empty-handed out of the shop before getting on a bike.

No one was hurt.

The suspect was described as wearing a black jacket and beige combat trouser and he made off on a black BMX bike with green stickers on.
