A MAN had to be pulled from his burning home by brave passers-by after a suspected gas explosion caused a massive blaze.

Sussex Police said four passers-by went into the bungalow to rescue the man, in his 50s, who has now been taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

The incident, which happened this afternoon at 4.12pm (Thursday, September 20), resulted in all the windows of the bungalow in Hillrise Avenue being blown out.

It is not known what injuries the man has suffered at this stage, however police said nobody else was injured and nobody was evacuated.

The road was closed with the junction of Hillbarn Avenue while West Sussex Fire and Rescue dealt with the fire, which is now out.

Sussex Police and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service investigators are now working to establish the cause of the fire.

The bungalow remains cordoned off.
