WORTHING has smashed the elf world record this morning, with 1,276 elves of all shapes and sizes gathered at Steyne Gardens.
Estate agent Robert Luff, who organised the fundraising event, counted everyone into a special elf pen, where those taking part had to stay for five minutes to validate the record attempt.
He said afterwards: “It was brilliant. I was really chuffed. The plan was to try to create a feeling of fun for all the family.”
It is hoped the event will raise thousands of pounds for St Barnabas House and Chestnut Tree House hospices, with the total expected to be announced on Monday.
Mr Luff expained: “I am a Worthing born and bred lad and these two charities mean a lot to me and to the town.”
