VIDEO: Worthing band's bid for the charts

A "POWER-POP" band are hoping to become the first unsigned band from Worthing to reach the Hit 40 UK music charts.

Third Time Luckie have released their debut single, Alys, and it has now been played on 40 UK radio stations and 25 American stations.

Hundreds of people have paid to download the song and it is currently the top downloaded track out of 58,000 on music website indiestore.com

"The sales have been thick and fast and it's really exciting that it has the potential to compete with famous musicians' songs," said guitarist and vocalist Chris Horner, 22, from Broadwater.

Introducing the band

Known locally as 3TL, the threesome also includes drummer and percussionist Carl Swietlik, 20, from Durrington, and Matt Dawe, 23, from Worthing, who is vocalist and plays guitar.

The band have gained an army of Worthing fans after playing at venues including East nightclub, Que Pasa bar and The Elms pub.

The song, which is an official registered track, is available as a payable download for 77p.

Each track bought counts as a real purchase, as if it was bought from a shop.

The song has the potential to reach the download charts held every Wednesday and then go on to compete for the top spot in the weekly Sunday evening Hit 40 UK chart.

"The track name is the Welsh spelling for girl's name Alice," said Chris.

"The song is about a girl with a split personality and we wrote it based on our experiences with ex-girlfriends.

"It's a pop track but has darker lyrics."

Chris added: "We hope our huge number of Worthing fans will support us and buy the track and, hopefully, we can make history as the first unsigned Worthing band to be in the charts."
