Week of action in Durrington

RESIDENTS, school pupils and businesses will join forces with the police and Adur & Worthing safer communities partnership to give parts of Durrington an overhaul.

The Castle Ward Week of Action begins on Monday, March 22, across Maybridge, Boxgrove and The Strand to target anti-social behaviour and driving and improve public spaces.

To kick-start the week, pupils from Durrington High School in The Boulevard will be working with the West Sussex Youth Service to design art work to decorate the Limbrick Lane underpass.

Scott Swift, who is responsible for community cohesion at the school, said: "We are very keen at Durrington High School to get involved in our community and the week of action is the perfect opportunity for our students to go into the community and help make a difference.

"Many of our students are from Castle ward and lots of them will help shape the future of the area."

Students will be measuring the underpass and coming up with a mural design which will then be painted onto the walls.

Sergeant Russ Philips, who has helped to co-ordinate the week, said: "We hope as many Castle ward residents as possible will join the week of action to help improve the areas they live, work or go to school in.

"Every day a team of volunteers, police officers, PCSOs and representatives from Adur & Worthing Safer Communities Partnership will be out improving the look and feel of the area."

To volunteer, call 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 599 March 3.
