Whole family is cast in remake of classic film

THREE generations of one family have been cast as extras on the set of Brighton Rock, being filmed in Eastbourne.

Kai Jones, his little brother and sister, his parents and grandparents were hired to star in the remake of the Graham Green film, starring Helen Mirren, Sam Riley and John Hurt.

They were among numerous members of Eastbourne Stagecoach School chosen as extras. Some 14 students and 27 parents and grandparents were hired to film for various days that the crew was in Eastbourne filming scenes.

Stagecoach principal Di Levy said the students and their parents had a wonderful time.

"I've been over a couple of times to see how they are all getting on and to watch some of the shooting," she said.

"Everyone involved has been extremely kind to them and many of the students have real things to do, rather than just being members of the crowd.

"It's a fantastic learning opportunity for them."

The film tells the story of a vicious gangster called Pinky, played by Sam Riley, and his efforts to avoid being arrested for a murder.

Written in the 1930s, the new version has been updated to 1964 to take in the era of the Mods and Rockers.

Final filming takes place in Eastbourne again this week and the film is due for release next year.
