WOOD WATCH: Day 35 – clean-up on target

DESPITE setbacks caused by last week's arson attack and problems with chipping machinery, Worthing's wood mountain is on its way to being cleared.

According to Worthing Borough Council the town's beaches are on target to be opened again by Easter.

The beaches west of Brooklands Park down to Merton Road, and from Worthing Pier up to Wallace Avenue – excluding the stockpile area at Heene Road – are already clear.

Metal baskets have been put in place on these beaches for stray pieces of wood to be put into, and safety notices have been put up warning people to exercise caution.

Contractors were due to start clearing the remaining part of the beach from Sea Lane in Ferring back towards the Heene Road area this weekend.
