Early indications suggest there was nothing authorities could have done to prevent the death of a Worthing baby.

Crystal Hall-Hummel died in May last year, and last month her mum Gerogina’s former boyfriend, 27-year-old Jerome Edwards, was convicted of her manslaughter.

After the trial concluded, the West Sussex Local Safeguarding Children Board started an independent serious case review on behalf of all the agencies involved with the case, including West Sussex County Council which described the case as a “tragedy”.
