A MAN escaped with minor injuries after his van collided with a tree and flipped over on Wednesday morning.

Police were called to Offington Avenue at 10.40am after a white Mazda was reported to have left the road.

The man was released from his vehicle by firefighters and taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital suffering from a wrist injury.

A woman standing behind the tree at the time of the impact was also unhurt.

Sergeant Stewart Goodwin, of the Arundel Roads Policing Unit, said: “A Worthing man was driving his white Mazda van eastbound in Offington Avenue, near the junction with Offington Drive, when the vehicle left the road and its near side collided with a tree and rolled on its side.

“The driver was trapped in his vehicle and was rescued by the fire brigade. He was taken by land ambulance to Royal Sussex County Hospital with a suspected wrist injury.

“The incident is still under investigation and we have not established the cause at this stage.

“Both the woman and the driver certainly had a lucky escape.”

Police are appealing for any witnesses to call 101.
