WORTHING Fire Station gave £1,000 worth of brand new toys and crafts to the children’s ward in Worthing Hospital on Friday.

Central operations group station manager Roy Barraclough and watch commander Darren Wickings delivered the gifts, including Xbox games, sensory toys and baby equipment, to the play team in the Bluefin Ward.

The money was raised through donations received at Worthing Fire Station’s open day in July.

Darren said: “It’s nice that any money raised we can put back into the community. “

Ryan Mander, 14, of Graveley Crescent, Lancing, has been a patient in the Bluefin Ward since December 2.

He said: “I spend most of my time in the playroom. It’s fun and takes away the boredom of sitting down all day.”

Christie Deniese, the hospital’s play specialist, added: “All the toys are a great distraction from pain and they get so excited.”
