RELATIVES of 100 year-old Dorothy Scott have lost count of how many grandchildren she has but at the last count, it was an amazing 19.
Dolly, as she likes to be known, celebrated with family at Westdene Care Home, Rye Close Worthing, on September 23.
Her youngest daughter, Elsie, 65, said the day went very well.
She said: “She was very with it and it was a really nice day with all her family around her.”
Elsie explained that Dolly gave birth to seven children from two marriages but she has lost contact with some of them.
She said: “Sadly, she has outlived four of them but that is what happens when you get older, you tend to lose contact with some of your extended family. So, at last count, she has 19 grandchildren and at least five great-grandchildren.”
Born in Appledore, Devon, Dolly moved to Rustington aged four.
She got her first job as a children’s nanny, but left to have her own children at 21.
She later took up a second post as a second cook at the Mulberry pub in Goring, until the age of 57, when she cared for her husband of 25 years, Percival, after he had a stroke.
She has lived at Westdene for 11 and a half years.
Elsie said: “She was very active and liked going to the WI.
“She liked a drink but wasn’t a drinker, she liked an occasional smoke, but wasn’t a smoker but she just enjoys life and makes the most of all her time.”
