Worthing students with windmills on their minds

BUDDING scientists at Davison generated "girl power" this week – and it was all thanks to windmills.

Girls in year nine at the school in Selborne Road, East Worthing, were paid a visit on Monday, January 5, by BBC TV scientists Dr Jonathan Hare and Richard Robinson.

They used windmills they had designed to create enough electricity to open a secret treasure box and run LED torches, calculators and radios.

The event was organised by science teacher Sarah Bromfield and was part of the Brighton Science Festival 2009.

Chris Hallworth, head of science, said: "The aim was to motivate the girls with science and it was really well received. The girls really enjoyed themselves."
