Worthing bail hostel debate
PLANS to set up a pre-bail home in Worthing has sparked a debate among Herald readers.
Worthing Council's Conservative group is fighting plans from BASS (bail/home detention curfew accommodation and support services) to set up a base for individuals awaiting bail, or who have just left prison.
Conservative spokesman Paul High said there were concerns about the plans, because although BASS state they do not house individuals who are "a risk to the community", they do "support those who do not need supervision, i.e., they are able to live in the community but, for whatever reason, are unable to provide a suitable address to be bailed to and would otherwise unnecessarily remain in custody".
Mr High added: "Our services are already severely over-stretched and the well-being of our residents is paramount."
