Worthing beach wood workers praised

MAYOR Heather Mercer has praised the volunteers and workers involved in tackling the timber mountains at Worthing.

She said many of them, including several councillors, had been on the seafront all night to help the rescue effort get started.

She said: "Everyone has been working incredibly hard and I know they will continue to do so in the coming weeks.

"When I went on the pier the view along the coast was amazing, although you could feel it vibrating as the wood hit it which was quite scary.

"Nobody knew where this wood was going to wash up, but when it hit Worthing everyone got to work ever so quickly."

Mrs Mercer said she was already planning to say an official thank you to all the workers involved by holing a special reception in her parlour.

Keep an eye on this website for more updates, photographs and video of the wood on the beach.
