Worthing man wants his money back

A WORTHING man who paid £210 to get his stolen car back from police after it was found said he was still waiting to get his money back.

Rob Brown, 27, from Bridge Road, paid the money after officers found his silver Ford Focus days after it had been stolen from a car park near his home on December 5 last year.

"They came round about two or three days later and then they rang me and said they had found it and taken it to the pound in Fontwell," said Mr Brown.

"I went to the pound the next day. When I got there, I had to pay for storage and the collection when they picked it up and took it back there. It was 210.

"I hadn't done any Christmas shopping. I had to borrow money to get people presents because I couldn't afford them myself because I'd had to pay out."

Thief sentenced

Adam Green, 21, from Shelley Road, was sentenced to six months in prison for admitting theft of a motor vehicle and two other offences when he appeared at crown Court on June 13.

Mr Brown is furious the court did not demand Green pay back any money to him or the innocent people he sold the stolen car to.

He said: "It's completely out of order.

"He gets money from selling the car, does about three months inside and we're out of pocket."

A police spokeswoman said: "Home Office regulations prescribe the sums that police charge for a vehicle's removal, storage and disposal. Often, these charges are covered by the owner's insurance."
