Worthing musician's solo debut

MUM'S the word for one of Worthing's best-kept musical secrets, Jeni Saint, who is stepping out of the shadows with a debut CD.

Jeni, from Goring, first tasted stardom as a shy 15-year-old when she won the national Song for Christmas competition in 1991.

She went on to study music at Oxford University and played cello on numerous hits, including Robbie Williams' Rock DJ and Mutya Buena's Real Girl, as well as scraping a living from playing live in pubs and clubs.

After six years working in music promotions with stellar names such as James Blunt, P-Diddy, Mark Ronson and Paolo Nutini, she has now released her debut EP, Life on a Wire.

Little Cloud

The record has already caught the ear of superstar DJs Paul O'Grady and Terry Wogan, who have played, and praised, the title track to their millions of listeners on Radio 2.

As she finally steps into the limelight, she is casting a large shadow for many reasons, not least the fact she is more than eight months pregnant.

But her imminent motherhood has inspired her, rather than hold her back, with a recent lullaby she penned, Little Cloud, being well-received by friends and fellow mums.

"I've had some nice reactions to it," said Jeni. "It's something I might follow up next year, maybe put an album together."

Life on a Wire

She co-produced Life on a Wire with her record producer husband Matt Ward, who is the perfect match, personally and professionally.

"He's extremely supportive," said Jeni. "He is able to work at home and we bounce ideas off each other. That's great in a partnership, to be able to talk about what you do.

"If I have to get up and go and play the piano at 2am, it's not a problem."

Life on a Wire is available by download from iTunes and emusic. For more information on Jeni, visit www.jenisaint.com
