Worthing Otters boy wins race in Steyning Festival of Sport

HUNDREDS of people lined the streets of Steyning for the town's annual Festival of Sport on Easter Monday.

The town's High Street and nearby roads were closed to traffic for the event, which featured a series of walks and runs, and the duathlon, attracting athletes from across the country.

And for the first time, the Steyning Athletic Club-organised event featured an aquathon, with participants taking to the water at Steyning Leisure Centre's pool before taking part in a run.

Malcolm Geal, from the athletic club, was one of the day's organisers.

He said: "It was a good, successful day.

"The weather was in our favour, obviously."

Otters

Ed Taylor, of the Worthing Otters Club, won the aquathon's boy's Tristar 1 race.

Fellow members Bethany Lewis and Eloise Walker came first and second respectively in the girls' event.

Worthing Otters secretary Julian Stevens said: "Well done to John Scott and his colleagues at Steyning Athletic Club. They staged an excellent event which we were pleased to support, and hope it becomes a regular fixture."
