Worthing promenade cycle lane delay

RED-TAPE safety checks were not completed in time for cycling to be legally allowed on Worthing's western promenade.

The borough council had hoped the shared-used cycle scheme from

Splash Point to George V Avenue could have been introduced in time

for the bank holiday weekend (August 29).

But a West Sussex County Council spokeswoman said checks on relevant

bylaws and regulations had not been completed in time.

It is now hopes cyclists will get their new, off-road route later this month, when both they and pedestrians will share the promenade without a specific cycle lane being provided.
