A WORTHING school is working with police to crackdown on parking problems to help protect children.

Currently, a number of drivers have been parking dangerously outside Vale First and Middle School, in Vale Avenue, at the start and end of the school day.

To fight this, neighbourhood policing officers have regularly visited the area, along with NSL traffic wardens, to monitor and educate drivers who insist on waiting in dangerous places.

Sussex Police cones have been loaned to the school and placed on corners which have caused the most concern.

To highlight the problem, some pupils at the school visited the area and were photographed as part of a road safety leaflet, which will be sent home with every child at the school.

Worthing’s community road safety officer, PCSO Ed Mitchell, said: “We are hoping by making the road safety leaflets more personal it will hit home to the people driving the pupils to and from school that they are causing a safety problem.

“It is important the corners around the school are kept free of vehicles to enable the children, their parents and other pedestrians to safely cross the road.

“It is disappointing a few parents and carers fail to adhere to the highway regulations, putting safety the children’s safety in jeopardy.”
