A ZUMBATHON to help fund the building of a new bedroom for a severely disabled young girl has been hailed a “fantastic success”.

Four-year-old Iona-May Thorne has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and her family are desperately trying to raise money to carry out £60,000-worth of alterations to their East Preston home to help make the Worthing school pupil’s life easier.

The two-hour energetic event, held at Worthing’s Assembly Hall, saw £1,741 raised for the Help Iona-May Fund and is just one of a long line of events planned to help raise the cash.

Grandma, Andrea Thorne, said: “The zumbathon event was a fantastic success.

“There were loads of people there and all had an amazing time – great dance atmosphere, great music and lots of smiling faces.”

She added: “We would very much like to thank zumba instructors Becky Daley and Mark Woods for helping to organise the day.

“They were ably assisted by zumba instructors Jenny Shepherd, Maria Lobb, Louise Ratcliffe and Liz Downes on stage leading the crowd.”

Thanks to the zumba event, the total amount of money raised for the Help Iona-May fund, which was launched in March, stands at £3,526.

During the zumba event, participants were treated to a live drum show by Josh Morice and a live performance of Adele’s Make You Feel My Love from Sally Jane Hurst. The next Help Iona-May event will be a cake and plant sale at Ferring Village Fête on Saturday, June 18, from noon.
